POCN Launches First-of-its-Kind Breast Cancer Center of Excellence for NP and PAs to Improve Patient Screening and Diagnosis

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, POCN is honoring the Center of Excellence’s Faculty Advisor, Sarah Donahue (AOCNP), as its 2022 NP/PA Educator of Distinction, Breast Cancer.

BOONTON, N.J. – October 19, 2022 – Today, POCN, the largest nurse practitioner (NP) and physician associate (PA) network in the United States, announces the launch of its Breast Cancer Center of Excellence, a central portal to educate NPs and PAs about the latest news and best practices in patient screening and the diagnosis of breast cancer. It is the only resource curated by practicing NPs and PAs for their peers. This is a free portal available to practitioners outside of oncology to review the latest content in breast cancer treatment, diagnosis and symptoms, to better support their patients, and provide enhanced care.

The Center of Excellence is led by breast cancer NP/PA experts: Sarah Donahue, MSN, MPH, Advanced Oncology NP at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center; Elizabeth Ramsey, MSN, FNP-C, Advanced Oncology Certified NP at Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers in Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Bryan Danilchuck, MPAS, PA-C, Surgical Breast Oncology PA at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass.

To recognize the critical role NPs and PAs have in breast cancer patient care and in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, POCN has named Donahue the 2022 POCN NP/PA Educator of Distinction (Breast Cancer). She has been a breast oncology specialist for over eight years, and has demonstrated a passion for educating the NP and PA community in breast cancer patient care.

“I am so fortunate to work at a world-class institution like UCSF, and being able to share my expertise I’ve learned over the last eight years is what motivates me to lead POCN’s Breast Cancer Center of Excellence,” says Donahue. “Breast cancer treatment requires a large, dedicated team to support patients through their journeys. NPs and PAs have the ability to enrich these teams and join hands with the MDs and RNs to support patients and give them the specialty care they need at every stage.”

To further honor Donahue’s excellence in breast cancer care, POCN is donating to the UCSF Metastatic Breast Cancer Research Program. Donahue selected this program because of its dedication to the advancement of breast cancer treatment.

“NPs and PAs play a key role in patient care and advocacy, especially when it comes to women’s health issues like breast cancer,“ says Richard Zwickel, Founder and CEO of POCN. “We’re honored to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month by offering a space for increased awareness, improved care, and greater education, led by some of the industry’s leading breast cancer oncologists. Congratulations to Sarah on this well-deserved award.”

POCN’s mission is to bring PAs and NPs together to network, share ideas, and create a strong foundation of providers. To learn more about POCN and its programs, visit: https://www.pocn.com.

About POCN
POCN, the largest network of PAs and NPs, is a trusted source for over 400,000 PAs/NPs who utilize POCN to connect with their peers, support and shape PA/NP education, stay up to date on the latest healthcare news, find earning opportunities including their next jobs, and access resources to improve patient outcomes. Traditionally, the physician community has received the majority of funding and resourcing, resulting in an underappreciation of the PA/NP community. POCN recognizes the need to advocate, support, and educate PAs and NPs. The organization does this through data and support services. For more information, visit www.pocn.com.
